Laboratory Technician

Job Title: Laboratory Technician.

Department: South West School of Non-Destructive Testing [NDT]

Reporting to: Technical Director

Job overview:

As part of a team supporting a technical training school based in Cardiff, the successful applicant will have a varied and interesting role maintaining the practical equipment and process lines, combined with assisting students with practical exercises under the direction of the course instructor. It is envisaged that the successful candidate will have a general technical background but not necessarily a working knowledge of NDT methods although that would be an advantage. Hence the duties and responsibilities described will be progressively undertaken as training is given and competence gained.

Secondary duties may involve other supporting activities relating to teaching material as time allows.

Key responsibilities:

  • Carry out routine maintenance on equipment and process lines according to pre-determined maintenance schedules and arranging calibration and repair as necessary.
  • Liaise with, and support instructors on a daily basis conducting defined practical exercises with students.
  • Assist the Operations Manager maintain training notes, exams and associated paperwork and school infrastructure
  • Any other duties deemed necessary by management

  • A technical disposition.
  • A methodical approach to tasks with attention to detail and good time management skills.
  • A flexible approach and a willingness to learn new skills.
  • The ability to work without supervision.
  • The ability to interact positively with both Instructors and students of varying backgrounds and abilities.
  • Full driving licence

Secondary skills would be an advantage:

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs.
  • Experience in working with databases.
