Jayne Were is an Analytical Chemist with over 24 years experience in the operation and management of Environmental Chemistry laboratories. During her career she has been involved in the development of a wide range of analytical methods and procedures including a joint venture project which resulted in the Perspective Discrete Analyser becoming the industry-standard for the analysis of nutrients in the Potable Water and Environmental sectors in the UK. She has gained UKAS Accreditation for the Inorganic Chemistry Department of a major UK water company laboratory and has been responsible for ensuring that the standard of the analysis and methodologies were compliant with UK Drinking Water legislation and were acceptable to the UK Drinking Water Inspectorate. She subsequently established a facility for the analysis of soil and contaminated land samples for Inorganic Chemistry parameters including the full ICRCL suite. As a consequence of growth the laboratory relocated to a larger premises and Jayne was responsible for the design of the new Inorganic Chemistry laboratory, supervising its construction, recommending appropriate equipment purchases and supervising the transfer of equipment and personnel to the new site. Jane is currently working with an architect on an EU funded project to design and equip a state of the art multi purpose laboratory for the analysis of foodstuffs and environmental samples in Aqaba, Jordan. The laboratory facilities include Chemistry, Microbiology and Virology sections. The project also involves the establishment of a network of air quality monitoring stations.
