James O'Connor

Marine Surveyor (Houston)

Starting as an apprentice on tankers for major oil producers, James spent almost 20 years at sea serving on all types of vessel, from product/chemical tankers to VLCCs and reached the position of Chief Officer with Texaco Overseas Tankerships. During this time, he gained great experience in loss control and cargo co-ordination duties on chartered vessels. On coming ashore, James entered the marine surveying industry, offering investigation and consultancy to the marine oil transport industry. Joining MTD in 1998 James advises Insurers, Owners, Charterers and Attorneys on tanker operations and the carriage and handling of various oil cargoes. He conducts investigations into accidents and contaminations, and performs condition surveys of vessels and equipment, including safety gear. James also has substantial experience of terminal surveys and cargo salvage and recovery strategies. He is an experienced expert witness.
