Dr Ian Holdaway, BSc, PhD

Ian has a BSc and a PhD in Industrial Chemistry. He was then recruited by Esso, as a Research Scientist, working on automotive fuel economy enhancement by the use of sophisticated lubricating oils, later moving into refining as a Refinery Planning Supervisor where he planned and co-ordinated the operation of the Esso conversion refinery at Milford Haven, identifying novel feed-stocks to enhance profitability. Ian then became Oil Loss co-ordinator, involved in reducing corporate oil loss, and leading technical audits of load and discharge terminals. He was later recruited by a major Commodities Trader to develop an energy operations group to support the London trading team where his role expanded and as Operations Director he was responsible for both oil and grain trading, as well as the development and management of a purpose built refinery in Rotterdam.

Ian became associated with MTD in 1996, and has provided his expertise for the investigation of numerous large petrochemical, petroleum and grain claims. His expertise of loss prevention and mitigation strategies is applied by Cambrian Marine Reprocessing Ltd, an associate company of MTD, to provide a unique onsite reprocessing service for contaminated petroleum and petrochemical products.
