Chris started his seagoing career as a midshipman at Royal Navy Public School “HMS Worcester”. He subsequently joined a Merchant Marine Company and served on a wide variety of vessels including Bulk Carriers, Tankers (both products and LPG) and General Cargo/Passenger/Refrigerated Cargo vessels. Upon qualification as a deck officer, he specialised in chemical tankers to the rank of Chief Officer. Chris then transferred to the offshore industry for three years, where, as Captain of an offshore service vessel he was involved in Anchor Handling, Towage, Pipe-laying, Diving Support, VLCC Mooring and Oil Rig Disaster Recovery. He was then appointed as Shore Based Manager of a fleet of six vessels in Gabon, West Africa.
On coming ashore, Chris joined an International Petroleum Inspection Company as an Inspector thence Manager and became CEO of operations in India for two years. This entailed the acquisition of an Indian Inspection Company and the management of twelve offices plus control of large Collateral Management Contracts. During this time a $1 million Laboratory was instigated in Mumbai under his control. Returning to the UK Chris was Senior Manager of an International Coordination Department with specific responsibility for Hydrocarbon Inspection and Testing in Europe, Africa and the Former Soviet Union (FSU). This involved the establishment of new operations in Africa and the installation of several green field site laboratories. Extensive travel within all these regions, in particular Africa, was regular.
Chris joined MTD in 2007 and has attended numerous liquid cargo loss and contamination cases, with particular focus on the investigation of incidents aboard vessels, notably petroleum and chemical tankers. A qualified quality systems audit lead assessor, Chris has also sat on IP panel working groups.
